1978 Pontiac Firebird
1978 Trans Am Y88 4 Speed PHS Docs
This car is in my personal collection and has a nice frame on restoration ( I would consider it a #2 car ) too nice to drive in the rain but not a museum piece. Only 1267 were made with the W72 Pontiac 400 and a 4 speed. Plus I have never seen any 1978 Y88 trans am with standard interior anywhere! Everyone I've seen has the deluxe interior. This is a very rare Bird!
The engine has been rebuilt by the previous owner to stock specs and is numbers matching. It runs strong and drives great. The rest of the drivetrain to my knowledge is fresh as well. It does have Ram Air 3 exhaust manifolds with dual exhaust and X pipe. The engine bay is nice and it appears to me certain things where left original, meaning not repainted or replaced to keep as much originality as possible. Example, washer fluid tank and overflow bottle, easy and cheap to replace but wouldn't be original.
The odometer shows 57,251 which I believe to be original but can't prove with documentation. I have an another original 58,000 mile 78 T/A and comparing the two underneath and certain parts like the T Tops and steering wheel which you can't buy aftermarket like the OEM stuff the two cars are almost identical. The steering wheel to me is the strongest clue. The underneath is unrestored and absolutely no rust. I'm no expert but it doesn't appear that the car has ever been rusty and all sheetmetal is original. I can stick a small magnet anywhere on the car.
The interior is like new and smells new! The dash has never been cut for a single DIN radio, the clock works, all the dash lights work. The gold anodizing is excellent on the steering wheel and dash bezel. The A/C was never charged so does not turn on. All A/C components are there. There is an aftermarket dash cap installed.
I have installed 4 new tires, alignment; I also went through the fuel system, rebuilt original carburetor ( It was tanked ); new gas tank and fuel lines; new fuel pump; new power steering pump as well. The original wheels where sent off for restoration and are flawless.
If you have any questions and are a serious buyer feel free to text or call 319 470 2873 my email is Barracuda1968@msn.com
If I had to pick the car apart for any reason it would be there is some dust in the paint which you need the right lighting to see. There are a few small rock chips on the lower rear wheel spoilers.
The reason I am selling this car is to add a Coronet R/T or Superbee to my collection. I will consider all trades if you have something interesting. No junk or projects please.
